Point Breeze Community Development Corporatio...

On Saturday, nearly 200 high school students from across Philadelphia gathered in Point Breeze to partner with two dozen community groups and civic organizations for Point Breeze Day of Service: Spring 2018, a day of community service to honor the legacies of a few local fallen heroes with the Travis Manion Foundation. Volunteers planted nearly 50 street trees, with Point Breeze Tree Tenders and East Point Breeze Neighbors, we cleaned up an alley and the park at Manton Green, picked up a few hundred bags of trash and leaves at Wharton Square Park 23rd & Wharton Street and Chew Rec Center, helped out at the 4th Annual Point Breeze 5K and Free Health Fair, as well as overall street and alley trash picking up across the neighborhood. Temple University Army ROTC and the 17th Police District Advisory Council came out in full force to help clean up two community parks. Thank you to all who participated!

Severe weather awareness week continues. Today's topic is severe thunderstorms. The definition of a severe thunderstorm is hail of 1" in diameter or larger and/or winds of at least 58 mph. The best place to be in a severe thunderstorm is inside a building. If that isn't available, a second, but not as good, option is inside a vehicle (excluding convertibles).
