  • Girard College reviewed by a student

If I had to rate my experience at this school on a scale of 1-10, it would be a 3.5 . Academic wise, I believe that the grading system is futile in many ways. Residential wise, there are way too many people in a dorm and it limits space in the rooms because the rooms aren't that big . For example, there can be six people sharing one room . I believe the maximum needs to be three in order to make living situations much safer , cleaner and better. Another thing about Girard is the food being served to the students. It does not balance a well put together meal and they often put "anything on a plate". I think there is not enough thought put into our meals which results in students not eating the food. I strongly believe that if food is being served to students, it needs to be something that dining services would ask themselves "Would I eat this myself ? In fact, would I serve this to my family including my children?" . The lack of sports is also a big issue that I hear from my peers often. Although there are bad experiences I've expressed within this message, I have also experienced good things. Many of those being programs like Alpha Boule that prepares us for college and just helps us become better as people before we graduate high school. There are opportunities to interact with people all over campus and to participate in many other programs. I could go on about my experiences but these are some of the main aspects that stand out to me.

At a Penn event, policy makers pick apart nuances of racism and poverty in gun violence
Amid recent student walkouts in response to mass shootings, students gathered in Steinberg-Dietrich Hall on Tuesday to discuss the roots of gun violence, particularly in Philadelphia. The American Enterprise Institute, the Public Policy Initiative Student Group, and Penn Democrats invited key policy-makers and Philadelphia activists to discuss how gun violence in Philadelphia and across the United States extends beyond the issue of gun control.
