Former Underground Railroad stop in Montco at center of preservation fight

At the intersection of Germantown and Butler pikes sits a 10-acre parcel of land with three buildings: a farmhouse, a carriage house, and a barn built in the late-18th and early 19th centuries.

Former Underground Railroad stop in Montco at center of preservation fight
A years-long fight over an historic property in Whitemarsh Township, near Plymouth Meeting in Montgomery County, Pa., continues this week as a developer and a group of preservationists make their cases in a township zoning hearing. At issue is a property that was once a stop along the Underground Railroad, sheltering African-American slaves who had escaped Southern plantations and were traveling toward freedom.

"More than 70 people – parents, grandparents, teachers, educators, library staff, and residents – packed the conference room at the Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library, 68 W. Chelten Ave. in Germantown, on May 18 to meet with members of Mayor Kenney’s appointed Philadelphia School Board, which will replace the School Reform Commission on July 1, 2018. Attendees said the new school board needs to be more transparent, develop a master plan to implement policies to address issues, establish basic facility standards, change the current format for board meetings to include more community decision-making involvement, increase partnerships between the schools and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department."

  • Project Learn School reviewed by a parent

I would never recommend anyone to this school they make you pay all this money you have to clean the school you have a week to bring in snacks and if your child stays for after care you have to provide snacks for everyone as well you pay all this money and still have to pay and work and the have you come in on a wed night for like a parent teacher night and you have to bring snacks as well and have you there all night . This school is not ran by any licensed teachers more like parents your just paying a lot of money for home school that does nothing
