On the Ground: Parkside's 'North Star' mural finally gets its due with official dedication

Callalily Cousar, a longtime Parkside resident and founding board member of the East Parkside Residents Association, is proud of the mural. "North Star: The Journey to Freedom," by Delia King, was completed at 1100 N. 41st Street in fall 2014.

    Posted on 18 April 2016 Demolition of the deteriorating 41st Street Bridge, which began last summer, has reached its final stage. Work began on Sunday, April 17 to remove the existing bridge piers adjacent to the Amtrak tracks. This work will run through the end of the month from Sunday through Thursday during the overnight hours of 10:00 p.m.

The lockdowns were first announced around 10 a.m. as multiple police unit converged on the area around 41st and Poplar.

    Lockdowns have been lifted at three Philadelphia schools after police found and arrested a male suspect they had been searching for. The Philadelphia School District confirmed that lockdowns were lifted at 11:05 a.m. Thursday at Blankenburg Elementary School, School of the Future and Philadelphia Learning Academy.
