Bud & Marilyn's is a great restaurant. It's a great place to hang out and drink, to go for snacks, to eat. I forget sometimes just how much I liked it there when I reviewed it almost a year ago, and then I go back for some reason and I'm reminded all over again.

Mayor Says D.A a Distraction, Voters Must Decide His Fate

1101 W. Montgomery Avenue, Philadelphia, Center City 19122

Mayor Says D.A a Distraction, Voters Must Decide His Fate
8.29.16: Philadelphia - (Politics): With the many issues facing Philadelphia - like gun violence in neighborhoods that claim innocent bystanders, police-community relations, which worsened after Mr. Brandon Tate-Brown, an unarmed Black man, was killed in December of 2014 by a police officer while unarmed and fleeing, or a poverty rate of 26 percent, the highest among any major American city - the current Mayor can't afford to be distracted by the drama unfolding in the life of Mr. Seth Williams, the unpopular District Attorney who was first elected in 2009 and who's seeking re-election in 2017.

Donald Trump's new $10 million TV ad cites two contradictory tax plans - one that Trump has explicitly ruled out and another that he has yet to endorse - raising more questions about what policies the GOP presidential nominee supports, NBC News reports. Trump's new ad seems generic enough for a Republican politician.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Mauckingbird): Uncovering a gay treasure

[Randall Theater 2020 N 13th St.] August 20-September 4, 2016; mauckingbird.org.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Mauckingbird): Uncovering a gay treasure
"Gay PIRATES OF PENZANCE? Isn't that redundant?" This was almost everyone's response to hearing of the Mauckingbird Theatre Company's production of the slapstick classic. It's more like Gilbert and Sullivan's zany comedy is finally fully realized. The sequined costumes and glitter makeup fit right in with the sweet, ineffectual pirates' aesthetic.

Some Philly pools close tomorrow: List of 2016 dates
Philadelphia is in the middle of a heat wave, with a scorching weekend on tap, but some of the city's public pools will close before the hottest weather hits. Philadelphia's 70 free public pools (the most per-capita of any city in the country) begin to shut down for the season on Friday, just as temperatures are set to soar, with triple-digit heat indices forecasted for Saturday and Sunday.

  • I love children and would love to be a lifeguard in any one of the pools......if I could swim. I'm sure I would be turned down if I contacted the city. However, if you are saying that the city would take anyone to be a lifeguard, then the problem's already solved. Dennis, need I remind you that closing of the pools in such hot weather is no sarcastic matter but a very serious one.

  • Gina, I am in total agreement with you. Furthermore, the city does this every year.
Why not hire as Gina has stated, it would give the teens a nice summer job and they could work up to Labor Day. Gina's thoughts are excellent and I hope and pray the powers that be take heed.
