Historical Commission debates demolition for University City properties

According to PlanPhilly's coverage of the eight-hour session, The University of Pennsylvania’s request was granted allowing the demolition of a historic, but “badly altered” property at 40th and Pine to proceed.

However, the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral’s request was put on hold, halting its plans for a 25-story residential tower at 38th and Chestnut.

Monday's holdup was likely committed by the same man who robbed a Green Line Cafe on Locust Street near 45th on Thursday, cops said. In that robbery, a man approached the counter about 9:35 p.m. brandishing a gun and demanding money.

Wiring blamed for fatal fire

The blaze, which broke out just before 5 a.m. in a rowhouse on Chancellor Street near 52nd, killed Rishya Jenkins, 23; her stepson, Cyncere McClendon, 4; her son, Jayden McClendon, 2; and her soon-to-be father-in-law, Seneca McClendon, 75.

Causes released in two fatal Philadelphia fires

The most recent fire occurred early Monday morning at a home in the 5200 block of Chancellor Street in West Philadelphia, leaving two boys, their mother and their grandfather dead.
