Neighbor introductions in and around Center City

Hello Center City East area folks! I know that a number of new neighbors have joined the site since we started sponsoring the Headhouse farmers' market, so I just wanted to start a discussion thread for people to say hello and introduce themselves (and you don't have to be new to EveryBlock to join the conversation).

Feel free to share anything from how long you've been in the neighborhood, what you most like about living in the area, or even...

Hello Center City East area folks! I know that a number of new neighbors have joined the site since we started sponsoring the Headhouse farmers' market, so I just wanted to start a discussion thread for people to say hello and introduce themselves (and you don't have to be new to EveryBlock to join the conversation).

Feel free to share anything from how long you've been in the neighborhood, what you most like about living in the area, or even the types of neighborhood projects or activities you'd be willing to volunteer for in case someone could use your help.

So don't be shy! I look forward to getting to know you all better, while you make your block a better place :)

Local shopping for Mother's Day gifts

Anyone have recommendations for last-minute local shops for Mother's Day gifts?

From flower shops to jewelry stores to bakeries, where are your favorite neighborhood spots for gifts?

  • Carolyn Wedding Planner, Boutique owner

I have some lovely gifts at my shop on Pine Street (918), Carolyn Verdi Boutique. I support local accessory designers and have some very unique items.

  • Hello World on 20th near Rittenhouse has great jewelry , bags, home gifts, etc.
Aoki is a new boutique on 22nd near Sampson. Very cool and beautiful gifts there, too

Great opening day at Headhouse Farmers' Market!

Thanks to all the neighbors who stopped by to say hello yesterday at the opening day of the Headhouse farmers' market!

We're excited to be sponsors of The Food Trust markets this season. Look out for our bags and postcards at the market when you shop. Check out our photos of the wonderful local vendors and more fun from the farmers' market on our Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/IUDEHQ

Oppossum Sightings

We live over on Orianna and are being stalked by a very large & very ugly oppossum that continues to find his way into our backyard. We have two small dogs and a baby and are always in the backyard at night especially when the weather is nice. It comes around even if we and the dogs are in the yard. It is freaking me out. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

  • I hear there are squirrels around. For God's sake, hide the children!

  • Dee Gradee Be the change you want to see

i have 2 small dogs and a large racoon crosses my fence once in awhile. I just keep an eye on my dogs, and don't let them stay out there by themselves. The critters are more scared of you. But just in case, have a loaded hand gun. It also helps to protect against the 2-legged terrors in our hood who find it amusing to break into our homes. :>
