Mantua: Drexel Students and Mantua Natives Come Together for Spring Cleanup

Mantua has seen some of the most dramatic increases of the entire city. Mantua is wholly in one recycling zone, which stretches from the river to 42nd St. and Girard Ave. to Market St. In 2006, according to the Department of Streets, this area recycled 2.9%. By 2011 this number was up to 14.6%

A local resident visiting Parkside, Adam Brodsky, who lives at Tulip and Sergeant streets, said he would be interested in the possibility of having a baseball field in West Philadelphia.

Apiarist Don Shump, who runs the Philadelphia Bee Co., is working to provide economic and educational opportunities for several areas in the city. His business manages a majority of its beehives on the roof of the Philadelphia Business and Technology Center, which is located at 5070 Parkside Ave.

Parkside: Grass Roots Movement Advocates to Restore Baseball Tradition

Today a memorial park, located at Belmont and Parkside avenues, commemorates the site where the Philadelphia Stars once played.

Mackenzi Parker, the co-owner of Le Cochen Noir on 5070 Parkside Ave., hosted the jazz brunch and keynote address in honor of Jackie Robinson Day and the Philadelphia Stars Negro League Baseball team. Parker said that celebrating and learning about black history in baseball brings people together.

Mike Feldsher, of Napier Street and Worthington Road said he brought his daughter to see the Philadelphia Stars Memorial for the learning experience.

One Injured In Parkside Car Accident

Early Saturday morning, two cars crashed at 41st and Girard in the Parkside section of the city. One person was transported to Hahnemann Hospital with minor injuries.

My pup was wandering around Upland & Drexel Rd a few feet from my front door, when an unknown person assumed he was lost and took him to Vector on Hunting Park Ave. Then posted his picture all over the neighborhood. It could have been worse. We got him back. Thank you.
